The Scullard book takes me right back to studying ancient history at school. We used his 'From the Gracchi to Nero: a history of Rome from 133 B.C. to A.D. 68'. I can still see its green and white cover. Jill

Hi Jill - it's a tough read, the Scullard. Someone let go their Roman History texts to the St Vinnies round the corner & I bought it because I'm ignorant in that area & feel the lack ... but not making much progress. Perhaps I need a task-master?

At high school we didn't 'read' it, we 'studied' it, ie mined it for whatever fact and argument we needed for an essay or test. I think I have a copy still - not my school copy which had to be returned but one acquired in someone's throw-out. It's on one of those shelves with multi-layers.
